  6. This package contains the binaries and the formatted manualpages for
  7. seventeen AmigaDOS Shell commands for System Release 2.04 or better.
  8. The package is released under the terms of the GNU General Public
  9. Licence. The full source is available in the archive ExtraCmds21p.lha,
  10. which also contains the contents of this archive, that is intended for
  11. those who don't give a damn about source code :-)

  24. This is the third public release; the previous ones where on Fish
  25. Disks. The difference between this release and the last one I sent to
  26. Fred Fish, is the addition of Unix-style manual pages formatted with
  27. groff. The programs are unchanged, except that support for the SCD
  28. command has been discontinued and as a result it is no longer part of
  29. the ExtraCmds package. The first release, available on Fish Disk 774,
  30. should be considered an obsolete beta release. The programs in the two
  31. newest releases are much more powerful.

  33. This release contains the following Shell commands:
  34.  
  35.     o Common reports lines common to two files.
  36.     o Compare compares two files,
  37.     o Concat concatenates and prints files.
  38.     o Copyright prints embedded messages.
  39.     o Count counts chars, words, and lines.
  40.     o Dirtree prints directory trees
  41.     o Find is a very powerful Swiss Army Knife style file finder
  42.       with an ARexx interface. It is very similar to Unix find.
  43.     o Head prints the first lines of files.
  44.     o Lower runs a command at another priority.
  45.     o Prepare extracts words from text files.
  46.     o Split cuts a file to pieces.
  47.     o Splitname does just that.
  48.     o Tee is a pipe fitting.
  49.     o Testbits is for use in scripts.
  50.     o Timecom times a command.
  51.     o Unique removes copies of identical lines.
  52.     o Usage shows the space used by directories.

  54. Installation is easy: Just copy the executables to somewhere in your
  55. path and, optionally, the #?.man files in doc/ to whereever you keep
  56. your man files.

  58. Ideas for additions to ExtraCmds include commands equivalent to Unix
  59. pr, cut, paste, tail, and xargs. The last one will be a nice companion
  60. to Find. The existing commands will continue to evolve too.
